Know Your Rights: DHH ADA Game
Know Your Rights: An ADA Adventure Game is an engaging and interactive digital game designed to introduce students to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and their rights as deaf and hard of hearing individuals. Through a series of scenarios and challenges, students embark on an "adventure" to learn about key aspects of the ADA in a fun and accessible way.
The game is divided into two levels:
Level One: Determine if the situation is right or wrong: Students analyze everyday situations and determine whether they align with the principles of the ADA, reinforcing their understanding of fair and unfair treatment.
Level Two: Choose the access card that fits the scenario: Students are presented with scenarios involving individuals with disabilities and must select the appropriate "access card" representing the necessary accommodations or rights in that situation.
By actively participating in these levels, students gain practical knowledge about the rights of individuals with disabilities and the importance of accessibility and inclusion. The game provides immediate feedback, allowing students to learn from their choices and solidify their understanding.
Learning Objectives:
Define the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its purpose.
Identify fundamental rights of individuals with disabilities under the ADA.
Recognize examples of discrimination against individuals with disabilities.
Understand the importance of accommodations and accessibility for people with disabilities.
Apply their knowledge of ADA rights to real-world scenarios for people with hearing loss.
Identify appropriate accommodations and supports for individuals with various disabilities in different situations (e.g., communication, access to services).
Develop advocacy skills by recognizing situations where disability rights are being violated.
